Fossombronia
Plants differentiated into stem and leaves, pale green, small, 0.5-1(-2) cm long, 2-3 mm wide, prostrate, often growing in rosettes. Leaves succubous, irregularly lobed, margins rounded, truncate, or irregularly dentate, undulate to crispate; cells large, thin-walled, with numerous minute, homogeneous oil bodies. Rhizoids purplish, rarely pale brown. Gynoecia dorsal on the stem apex, without an involucre, and later in a campanulate pseudoperianth. Sporophytes surrounded by a campanulate pseudoperianth with a wide, open mouth; setae short, thick; capsules spherical, opening irregularly; spores large, thick-walled, surface ornamented by lamellae or spines; elaters free inside the capsule, with 2-3 spirals, or rudimentary, lacking in some species.
